CASTRATOR posts new video ahead of album release "Coronation of the Grotesque"
Three years after their debut Defiled in Oblivion, North American death metal outfit CASTRATOR return with their sophomore album Coronation of the Grotesque, promising a leap forward that cements their status among the elite of the scene. The album is set for release on August 15, 2025, via Dark Descent Records.
Co-founder and drummer Carolina Perez describes the new work as their strongest yet:
"Writing 'Coronation of the Grotesque' was an incredibly enjoyable experience, and everything seemed to come together much more naturally this time. While the album still retains elements of who we were as a band, it’s much more refined, cohesive, and brutal."
The lineup features the creative core of Carolina Perez and bassist Robin Mazen, alongside powerful vocalist Clarissa Badini and newly recruited guitar virtuoso Sara Loerlein, whose fresh dynamic and killer leads have elevated the band’s sound.
Lyrically, the album tackles heavy historical and societal themes, including the tragic killing of Mahsa Amini, ancient Sumerian eunuchization practices, and condemnation of predator Naasón Joaquín García. Clarissa Badini’s commanding vocals bring precision and power to these weighty topics.
Coronation of the Grotesque was recorded across multiple studios with notable figures from the US death metal scene, including John Tardy (Obituary) engineering bass, Jordan Milner handling guitars and vocals, Taylor Nordberg (Deicide) contributing additional guitars, and Noah Buchanan (Nunslaughter) on drums, mixing, and mastering. The striking cover art is by John Zig.
Having toured with Immolation, Exhumed, and Cattle Decapitation, CASTRATOR have proven their live prowess. Tour announcements supporting the new album are expected soon.
Track listing for the release:
1. Fragments of Defiance
2. I Am Eunuch
3. Covenant of Deceit
4. Mortem Opeterie
5. Remnants of Chaos
6. Deviant Miscreant
7. Psalm of Beguiled
8. Blood Bind's Curse

10. Metal Command
