Brazil's TORTURE SQUAD is all set to unleash their savage new album 'Devilish' on September 22nd, 2023, under the label Time To Kill Records.
Adding to the thrill, TORTURE SQUAD has released the first single from the album, 'Mabus', complete with a gripping video.
The band opens up about the inspiration behind the song:
'The prophecy of Nostradamus about the coming of Mabus, the third antichrist, fuels the lyrics. This song hits hard with its speed and intensity.'
'Devilish' is an album steeped in darkness. It reflects contemporary struggles, including the ongoing devastation of the Amazon rainforest and the escalating mental health issues like anxiety and depression in the populace. However, the album also offers an escape into a world of fantasy inspired by games, series, and fictional literature.
On their sophomore album with the new lineup, consisting of Mayara Puertas (vocals), Rene Simionato (guitar), Castor (bass), and Amilcar Christófaro (drums), TORTURE SQUAD pushes the boundaries of extreme metal. The album introduces progressive metal elements, influences from Brazilian music, and symphonic features.
'Devilish' pays homage to Brazilian heroes as well. It includes a collaboration with Andreas Kisser (Sepultura) in the track 'Buried Alive' and a tribute to Rickson Gracie, the resilient Jiu-Jitsu fighter and considered a legend in the sport, in the song 'Warrior'. The band engaged multiple musicians passionate about indigenous causes in Brazil to contribute to the track 'Uatumã'. This song powerfully combines the speeches of indigenous leader Raoni Metuktire with tribal rhythms, advocating for the protection of the Amazon.
